PATIENT ADVISORY COUNCIL

What is the Patient Advisory Council?
WFPC started a Patient Advisory Council (PAC) in September 2001. The goal of the PAC is to improve patient care. The PAC can do this by having clinic patients and staff meet to discuss ideas about the clinic. What does the clinic do well? What could the clinic do better? It is very important for clinic staff to get feedback from patients. We want everyone to feel comfortable with the clinic and its services.

Who is the Patient Advisory Council?
The council is made up of clinic staff representing each part of the clinic – nursing, doctors, business office, and office management - and patients. The patients are the most important part of the Council.

When does the Patient Advisory Council meet?
The PAC meets every-other-month. Meetings are the 4th Wednesday of the month, from 6-7:30 PM in the clinic waiting room. The PAC is always looking for new members. If you are interested in joining the Patient Advisory Council, call Jean at 262-928-7318 for more information.

Goal of the Patient Advisory Council:
To improve the health care of all Waukesha Family Practice Center patients.

To reach this goal, the Patient Advisory Council will:

  • Improve the clinic’s ability to meet all of the health care needs of the patients;
  • Obtain the patient’s perspective on clinic policies/activities/treatment of patients for continuous quality improvement;
  • Let WFPC become more patient-centered and patient-driven;
  • Provide a mechanism for patient input;
  • Increase cooperation and understanding between patients and staff;
  • Offer a forum for developing creative, cost-effective solutions to problems and challenges faced by WFPC.

Potential benefits of the Patient Advisory Council include:

  • Keeping Practice issues more visible;
  • Learning about the patient’s perspective of the clinic;
  • Improving communication between patients and doctors;
  • Allowing patients to see WFPC staff and doctors as people outside of their professional capacities;
  • Allowing an opportunity for the patients to be proactive with the clinic;
  • Giving the doctors an opportunity to learn that patient input on all levels is important to more effectively addressing patient needs;
  • Improving trust between the patients and the doctors;
  • Giving the Residents an opportunity to learn how to include patients in patient-centered care
