Text Box: clinical experience and comfort with issues in caring for long-term care patients, they are assigned more responsibility for these patients. 
Residents also gain invaluable experience mobilizing community resources to provide home care as well as hospice care while getting a first-hand look at the myriad of issues involved in making end-of-life decisions with their patients and families. 
Geriatric patients also comprise a significant proportion of inpatients on the Family Medicine Teaching Service. 
We complement these hands-on clinical experiences with online educational modules developed by the Medical College of Wisconsin, interactive small-group teaching sessions with faculty members who have special Text Box: It’s a fact: we’re all getting older. Despite Botox, chemical peels, and the explosion of cosmetic surgery, the population continues to age. By 2030, the number of people who are at least 65 years old is expected to be more than 71 million, more than twice their number in 2000.  The fastest growing segment of our nation’s population are those who are 85 years old or more -  up to 20 million individuals by 2050. Currently, older patients already make up about 25% of office visits to the average family physician. Obviously, this percentage will continue to rise.
We have developed a longitudinal curriculum to prepare our graduates to provide the highest quality care for their older patients. Resident physicians learn to address the different issues Text Box: inherent in geriatric care through traditional and nontraditional coursework as well as from direct patient care.
This multi-faceted experience starts in the Family Medicine outpatient clinic where residents care for their own panel of older patients with the assistance of faculty members. Our nurse practitioner will accompany residents making home visits during which skills such as functional and home-safety assessments are practiced.
Our residents also provide continuity care for a panel of patients at LindenGrove Waukesha, a long-term care facility that was ranked “Best in the Nation” according to “The Inside Guide to
