More importantly, we believe that it will prepare residents who will work for/with others to find a practice more likely to work for them, because  they will understand the issues and be able to ask the right questions before signing on the dotted line.
Text Box: At Waukesha Family Practice, we have recently instituted a new practice management curriculum.  The Medical College of Wisconsin has a well-liked lecture series for second and third year residents, and we have added a “lab” component to the lecture course.
The curriculum has the residents working in groups to actually design a practice through a series of twenty modules spread over the last two years of residency.  In each module the residents receive a 30-45 minute lecture and are given a related task to complete by the next session which is usually four weeks away.  They work with their partner(s) to research and negotiate the final product.  This work begins during protected time that is designed into the course.  At the subsequent meeting, they present their work to the larger group for critique and Text Box: discussion.
We provide a series of books, readings, and Internet resources to assist the residents in this work.
The goal of this curriculum is to truly prepare residents for the “business of medicine”.  It will allow those who choose to 
go into their own practice directly out of residency to have done a lot of the
