The Waukesha Family Practice Residency offers students from every year of training the opportunity to share in our exploration of the strengths and possibilities of family medicine. Our informatics training has caught national attention. Learn how we are managing the explosion of medical information using a state of the art electronic medical record and a structured approach to finding medical information. Experience cultural diversity in a bilingual office prepared to model quality care for a very rapidly growing Hispanic population. All of this is pro vided in a very student-friendly learning environment emphasizing the core values of family medicine provided by caring personal physicians.
For first and second year medical students, we offer mentorships (Clinical Continuum) and the M1/2 summer externship that allows students to appreciate the importance of care that is centered around the patient's needs. Attend deliveries and surgery, see patients in the ICU, do house calls, go to the nursing home, and be a part of our community. During the M2 physical diagnosis course (ICE - Introduction to Clinical Examination) you will be challenged to learn and demonstrate your skills based on direct observation and feedback. We are also a site for the 3rd year family medicine clerkship and accept two students each month.
For 4th year students, our elective combines both inpatient and outpatient medicine that allows you to independently experience the full range of family medicine as a sub-intern on our team.
If you speak spanish let us know, as we can also help you develop these skills further. Lastly, you are welcome to join our team at any time for year-round Friday basketball or waterskiing which will be starting again soon. All this is easily accessible in less than 20 minutes from Milwaukee. You will be amazed how enjoyable medicine can be!
